Goal
Representatives from public, private and volunteer transportation services, seniors organizations, seniors and interested community members collaborate to improve the transportation system for older adults in the City of Ottawa.
Objectives
- To raise public awareness of transportation needs of seniors.
- To increase seniors’ knowledge and use of available transportation services.
- To increase sensitivity to the needs of seniors among transportation providers of the current and upcoming market of seniors, their needs and financial constraints.
- To actively solicit the involvement of public and private transportation providers in the improvement and advancement of services to seniors.
- To develop innovative approaches to using and supplementing existing services in order to fill identified gaps and satisfy seniors’ transportation needs.
- To increase the coordination of volunteer transportation services.
Guiding Principle “What can we change that will make useful, reasonable inroads in serving seniors”
Committee Structure
- A Coalition Committee that will meet 10 times per year or as needed, to share information on resources and opportunities, receive updates from subcommittees, review results, coordinate, set direction and establish priorities for potential solutions.
- Standing sub-committees will work on solutions in each of the major problem areas through concrete actions to improve services.
- Members of the Coalition will select the chairperson for a one-year term, which may be renewable.
- The secretary will be a staff person, or committee member. Agendas to be sent by email one week in advance of scheduled meetings and minutes sent following each meeting.
- Funding will be administered through the Council on Aging.
- Terms of Reference are to be reviewed annually.
Membership
- Membership is open to organizations, agencies and individuals who support the goal of the coalition. To be reviewed once a year.
- New members are always welcome.
Decision making Process
- A quorum shall consist of 5 members.
- Decisions will be made by consensus or majority vote.
- The chair will facilitate the development of consensus. The chair has the same voting right as other members.
