ROTIS Steering Committee

Mission

To foster a community that supports and values the health and well being of isolated seniors, recognizing their right to self determination.

Purpose

The purpose of the Steering Committee is to ensure the ROTIS Network is implemented consistently across the city of Ottawa in a manner that is responsive to local needs and respectful of those whom it serves.

Key Functions

  • To conduct a yearly visioning exercise; develop strategic plans
  • To guide and direct the Reaching Out To Isolated Seniors Network to ensure its ultimate success in accordance with the project goal, objectives and expected outcomes, in accordance with the terms of agreement with the funding agencies
  • To seek input from the Network of Partners to address gaps in service and barriers which prevent isolated seniors being connected to their community
  • Provision of guidance to the lead agency, Help the Aged (Canada), and the Program Coordinator on important network issues
  • To continue to create an environment that encourages and values participation from seniors, Network members, non-traditional referral sources and the general public
  • Ongoing project evaluation

Frequency of Meetings

  • Three times a year or as required

Membership

  • Service providers and seniors representing the geographic and ethnic diversity of the City of Ottawa. One member from each group with a designated alternate. The Steering Committee links with a city-wide network of groups and agencies and faith communities.

Quorum

  • Fifty percent plus one of  the membership must be represented in order to conduct a meeting.

Decision-Making Process

  • All decisions will be made in accordance with the Steering Committee’s mission statement and role
  • Decisions will be made by consensus or majority vote
  • The chair will facilitate the development of consensus. The chair has the same voting right as other members
  • One vote per agency/group
